A quiet ritual of wrapping - rooted in Japanese tradition and shaped by design.

introduction

I am a London-based designer and Japanese Furoshiki specialist. Living in the UK for over two decades has deepened my appreciation for Japan's traditions and inspired me to share them in a contemporary way through workshops, gift experiences, and visual compositions.

my story

Spatial design has long been my profession. My role is to help clients shape their ma 間 through a considered curation of objects, art, and experiences that bring harmony and depth to their surroundings.

With Furoshiki 風呂敷, I explore how a simple square of cloth can create space, carry intention, and express gratitude. Wrapping becomes a gentle ritual and an art form that honours beauty, presence, and a more responsible way of living.

origin

ma space design began from a deeply personal place. After losing my sister in 2006 - a landscape designer who loved nature - I felt a strong desire to create something that could encourage a kinder relationship with the earth. During a difficult period, time spent in nature became grounding. In that quiet clarity, I realised a simple ritual of wrapping with cloth could restore meaning, reduce waste, and keep the joy of giving.

what I believe

At the heart of my practice is ma 間 - the space between things. It is where intention lives. It is also where we choose less, but better.

  • ma 間 - space, pause, balance, presence
  • Intention - thoughtful gesture over excess
  • Craft - respect for material and maker
  • Sustainability - beauty that does not create waste

The Japanese word ningen 人間 points to something I return to often: we are defined by connection. There is the self, and there is the space between us. In that space, we meet others, we learn, and we care for what surrounds us. This is why community, nature, and the planet matter in my work.
